Last updated July 14, 2014| Alice de Cheney married Geoffrey de Saye, a descendent of William de Saye who was one of William the Conqueror's overlords and presumably one of his relatives. Geoffrey was one of the Magna Cara Barons who forced King John to sign the historic document which granted Englishman political and civil liberties after their defeat at the King's army at Runnymeade on June 15,1215. Geoffrey fought in Gascony for King Henry III in 1224-1227. Alice took as her dowery 2,500 acres of land and three manors (Street, Hansey and Saddlecomb) from the Cheney estates in Sussex. Geoffrey and Alice has a son, William. |
