The Dustin home was attacked by Indians on 15 March 1697 or1697. Hannah Emmerson Dustin observed
one of the Indians kick in the head one of her one- week old twins. The remaining twin was
Mahitable Dustin (b 9 Mar 1696 or 1697). Hannah and her nurse, Mary Neff were taken prisoners
by the Indians. Two weeks later Hannah, Mary Neff and an English boy who had been held captive for more than a year were being held prisoners in a Wigwam by 12 Indians. Hannah awoke during the night, and took a tomahawk and struck a fatal blow to the head of the Indian nearest her without awakening him. She went from Indian to Indian striking fatal blows to their heads until all were dead. She then scalped 10 of the Indain and made off down the river in a canoe with her two companions and 10 dripping trophies. |
