ARLEN G. SEIDEL

Arlen G. Seidel, 71, of Wabasha.

formerly of Pelican Rapids, died

Tuesday, December 18, 2002 at the

home of his daughter in Eau Claire,

WI. He was diagnosed with liver

cancer in 2002 Arlen Seidel was born February

1, 1931 in Pelican Rapids, the son of

Albert and Myrtle (Anderson) Seidel. He

served his country in the U.S. Army

during the Korean Conflict from

1952 to 1953. He married Sylvia

Mayfield September 20, 1955 at

the Assembly of God Church in

Pelican Rapids. Arlen worked as a

sales agent for the Cenex-Land

O’Lakes L.P. Gas Plant in Granite

Falls for 22 1/2 years. He retired in

1988, at which time the couple

moved to Buffalo. There he helped

his wife manage the Super 8 Motel.

They moved to a home on Eagle

Lake in Frazee in 1991 where he

worked for the Detroit Lakes

School System as a custodian. He

also drove school bus there. They

moved to Wabasha in May, 1998.

Arlen truly enjoyed serving God, to

whom he committed his life in

November of 1954. He was a board

member in the churches he attend-

ed through the years, and he volun-

teered with a variety of ministries

and projects in his church and

neighborhood. His desire at retire-

ment was to help his children with

their projects. He loved being Dad

to his children and Grandpa to his

grandchildren. He was a member of the Valley

View Assembly of God Church in

Lake City, and a life member of the

VFW Post #5252 in Pelican

Rapids.

Arlen is survived by his wife,

Sylvia Seidel, Wabasha; daughter,

Cheryl (Rev. Steven) Brandt, Eau

Claire, WI; Sons, Alan Seidel,

Vesta, Jeffrey (Lisa) Seidel, Pied-

mont, SD, Scott (Julie) Seidel,

Farmington; ten grandchildrcn, and

one great-granddaughter; four

brothers Ernest Seidel, Merle

(Mary) Seidel, Gordon Seidel, all

of Pelican Rapids, Harvey (Linda)

Seidel, Audubon; one sister, Gloria

(Dennis) Johnson, Galesburg, IL;

nieces and nephews. He was pre-

ceded in death by one grandchild

and his parents.

A funeral service was held on

Saturday, December 21, 2002 at

Valley View Assembly of God

Church in Lake City with the Rev-

erends Orin D. Sandberg, Steven

Brandt, Lowell Clarke and Daniel

rurner officiating. Interment was

Sunday, December 22 at Ringsaker

cemetery in Pelican Rapids. Mili-

rary rites will be performed by the

Pelican Rapids VFW Post #5252.
